Virtual Warm-Up Contest

Date: Saturday, March 12, 2022

Schedule:

  • 1:00pm: Introduction and guidelines of contest
  • 1:30pm: Contest begins
  • 3:30pm: Contest ends
  • 3:45pm: Guest Speaker
  • 4:00pm: Awards Ceremony

Our Warm-Up Contest is only open to students who live or attend school in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut or Pennsylvania. We will include an introduction into programming contests followed by the two hour contest. The contest will feature a collection of problems ranging from “very easy” to “medium-hard”. The participants will be grouped into teams of three that range in levels of programming experience. Only limited programming experience is required. You can see sample questions from previous years: 2021 sample 1 and 2021 sample 2.

We are happy to announce we will be holding the contest virtually this year! Our contest is designed to help students who have less experience in computer science competitions to build their skills and strategies. We encourage students from groups who have historically been excluded from the tech field such as but not limited to female, Black, Latinx, indigenous, and students with disabilities to join us at this event.

Support from Teaching Assistants will be available. The goal of the Teaching Assitants is to teach you how to recognize and solve these problems by yourself. They will help you recognize and solve problems through traditional debugging techniques. Though they will offer support and guidance, they will not be writing code for you.

For information on the contest please contact Vanessa Maley at vsm34 -at- cornell.edu or Diane Levitt at diane.levitt -at- cornell.edu.
