David Gries and the late Wlad Turski were named "Honorary Editors-in-Chief" of the journal IPL (Information Processing Letters) for their leadership of IPL since its beginning in the early 1970's. They served as editors until 1988. They were the two managing editors from 1988 until 2003, when they assumed a more advisory but still active role. Turski passed away in July 2013. As an IPL editor, Gries processed more than 1,500 submissions, reviewing many of them himself.
