In an unprecedented step for the Department of Computer Science, the chair's appointment has been extended to a consecutive period.
Dean of the Faculty of Computing and Information Science, Robert L.Constable made the announcement April 21, 2004, that he has reappointed Charles Van Loan to serve an additional 2-year term as department chair.
Constable also said "This appointment recognizes Charlie's exceptional devotion to the department, and the positive atmosphere he has created through his tireless efforts on behalf of this exceptional community."
