Commencement Details for Computer Science Graduates

For students graduating December 2019, May 2020, or August 2020, the Department of Computer Science will hold a ceremony and reception to honor our graduates—both Undergraduate students and Graduate students—during the May Commencement weekend, May 22-24, 2020. Graduates and their guests are invited to attend the CS ceremony and reception, with more information below. There are no tickets required for these events. Detailed information will be sent to graduates during the 2020 Spring semester.

Undergraduate and Graduate Recognition Ceremony

Date: Friday, May 22, 2020

Time: 5-8:00 pm (doors open at 4:00 pm)

Location: Barton Hall

Ph.D., Masters, and M. Eng, and B.A. and B.S. Degrees will be recognized at this event.

A Graduate Brunch for Ph.D.s will be held Friday, May 22, 2020 at the Johnson Museum of Art, Lynch Conference Room from 10:00am until 12:00 (noon).

SCHEDULE for graduation ceremony on Friday, May 22, 2020:

4:00 pm: Doors open for seating at Barton Hall (entry via the Garden Avenue side of the building)

4:00-4:30 pm: Graduates should arrive (east side of building—on Garden Avenue, facing Comstock Hall and Teagle Hall), pick up name card, and line up for procession into stage area

4:50 pm: Guests should be seated and all Graduates should be in line and ready to process into the ceremony/stage area

5:00 pm Procession/Ceremony begins

~8:00 pm: Ceremony ends/Graduate Recessional

~8:00 pm: Graduates gather at stage area for group photo

~8:00 pm: Reception begins in Barton Hall (east side of building)

General Information

Tickets: None required; this is a non-ticketed event.

There is no limit to the number of guests that Graduates can bring to the event, but there will be an online RSVP (for students-only) opening in April to get an accurate head-count for the event.

Information for the Ceremony

Photos: Each year, the department hires a professional photographer to capture memorable moments throughout the ceremony. Once received from the photographer, these photos are then shared free of charge with all of our students via Computer Science’s listservs and/or compiled and made available on services like Google Photos, to be downloaded and shared as desired.

Receptions: All guests are invited to the reception immediately following the ceremony. Food and refreshments will be served.

Parking: Parking is available in the Hoy Road Garage, adjacent to the Baseball field and in close proximity to Gates Hall, Barton Hall, and the Engineering Quad. A campus map can be found by the garage.

Accessibility for the ceremony: Please note that guests with reduced mobility and/or limited stamina should arrive on the Garden Avenue (the east side of Barton Hall, directly across from Teagle Hall) and enter via the Garden Avenue entrance. Cornell University Convocation and Commencement Events

Saturday, May 23, 2020, 12:30-1:30pm Senior Convocation at Schoellkopf Stadium (between Campus and Hoy roads)

Saturday, May 24, 2020 there will be a Ph.D. Hooding Ceremony in Barton Hall from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm. The ceremony will run from 5:00-6:15 pm with a reception to follow from 6:15-7:00 pm. Please RSVP.
