- Q. What is the epsilon of a number?
A. The epsilon of a number is the distance of the absolute value of the floating point representation of that number from the next largest floating point number of the same precision. So, for instance, the epsilon of 1 in double precision is the distance of the double representation of 1 (which is just 1) from the next largest double precision floating point number.
