what is BOOM?
It's a fair that showcases student efforts and creativity in digital technology and applications. We will be using previous BOOM events as prototypes, but will be including many other disciplines throughout the University. BOOM '03 is being held via two mediums--the web, and a poster session. This year all projects are required to have a URL for the project. If you have an exciting student project in this area, please use this great opportunity to show off your work. For more information, email: boom03@cs.cornell.edu. The BOOM '03 Committee will select outstanding projects for display in the Upson Hall 3rd floor display cases.

presentation guidelines
  • All projects MUST have a url specific to the project (i.e. each project must have its own individual webpage; no class or group project pages can be accepted). Your webpage will be added to the CS department archive after BOOM '03 is over.
  • Your website should begin with a very brief introductory paragraph that describes your project before going into further detail. Examples of websites detailing projects from a similar forum can be viewed at BOOM '02, BOOM '01, BOOM '00, BOOM'99, and BOOM'98. You may continue to modify your site after submitting the URL to us.
  • During the actual event, a maximum of 2 project leaders can be present at the same time.
  • Computer Demos in addition to Posters/handouts are preferred.
  • Poster Guidelines: Minimum 24 point bolded font; use color; bulleted statements - avoid full sentences; suggest utilizing handouts for more detailed information.
  • Registration on the day of the event will be based upon the location of your display (we assign it). You'll be notified of the time nearer to 3/5/03.
  • Table-top easels are available for Legal Size posters, and regular full-size easels are available for standard posters (max 2)
sample projects
The project might be theoretical in nature or involve an interesting program. It can be an interesting extension/enhancement of a project turned in for a course or the result of an independent research project. Especially encouraged: A project that does not fall within the scope of any one course - e.g., a computer game that illustrates an interesting aspect of some course, a novel tool for the web, a new tool for generating art, etc. To see last year's BOOM Projects, go to http://www.cs.cornell.edu/boom/2002sp/projects.htm
