Information is power. Arm yourself.

"The greatest sin of our time is not the few who have destroyed but the vast majority who've sat idly by."
-- Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

"If you think you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping in a closed room with a mosquito."
--African proverb

"Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could only do a little."
-- Edmund Burke

"The duty of the patriot is to protect his country from it's government."
--Thomas Paine, The Rights of Man

Links

True Majority - Their website advertizes: "Give us two minutes a month. We'll give you a better world." All you have to do is register with their site, and then they send you a email, much like Amnesty International, that lets you send email voicing your opinions on political issues to the President and to Congress. "TrueMajority sifts through all the stuff going on in Congress. When your voice counts to create a just and sustainable world, you get an email alert." Check out the interactive flash media on MLK; it's really inspiring.

Public Citizen - Ralph Nader's consumer advocate web site; "hot issues", reports, statistics, and links (www.questionabledoctors.org).

"Government is an association of men who do violence to the rest of us."
--Leo Tolstoy

Department of Peace Legislation - Legislation sponsored by Representative J. Kucinich to form a Department of Peace. Awesome idea. Why have you never heard of it?

Project Censored - Great web site; started by publishing (once a year) the top 10 issues not covered by the popular media.

Roll Call - Type in your zip code and get a list of all of your elected representatives to send them letters, email, call... (unless one of your reps is also Schumer; then you have to go to his site's contact web form.)

Cursor - Collects articles from the best of the web.

In the Public Interest - Consumer Advocate, former Presidential candidate Ralf Nader's weekly column.

United States Institute of Peace - I'm not sure where to put this information on my site... i think it needs to be seen. The United States Institute of Peace is an independent, nonpartisan federal institution created by Congress to promote research, education, and training on the peaceful management and resolution of international conflicts. Established in 1984, the Institute meets its congressional mandate through an array of programs, including research grants, fellowships, professional training, education programs from high school through graduate school, conferences and workshops, library services, and publications. The Institute's Board of Directors is appointed by the President of the United States and confirmed by the Senate. Which means, i think, they're a little too political... the current front page story is Sectarian Reconciliation in Post-Conflict Iraq... as if we've already gone in and bombed Iraq, killed Hussein, got that all taken care of... but i went to a lecture by Dr. Arjuna Parakrama at Cornell which was very nice (Dr. Parakrama was a South East Asian specialist with USIP from Oct. 99-July 2000) in which he explained how the "peace" in Sri Lanka is only being held together by the fact that it currently economically benefits both the Sri Lankan and Tamil Tiger groups (who are still kidnapping children and forcing them into military service). You might also want to read these justifications for just war theory they posted on this "peace" site.

Worldwatch Institute - Founded by Lester Brown in 1974, the Worldwatch Institute offers a unique blend of interdisciplinary research, global focus, and accessible writing that has made it a leading source of information on the interactions among key environmental, social, and economic trends. Their work revolves around the transition to an environmentally sustainable and socially just society—and how to achieve it.
