CS433 Fall 2002: Old Announcements

12/08/2002: Here is an example file of how to write a small server for your external data source. Everything is set for Monday, December 16. At 9am we start with the Photography Project groups in 5130 Upson. At 10:40am the regular project demonstrations start and will continue throughout the day.
12/05/2002: Some sample files for XML transformation:
- Sample servlet and Xslt transformation: JTrans.java.
- Sample Xslt stylesheet and Xml document.
- Sample .bat file to set CLASSPATH.
11/19/2002: The XML, XPath, and XSLT lecture has been postponed to December 4. There is no lecture on 11/20.
11/18/2002: An article about teamwork that I came across today. The article appeared in Tomorrow's Professor Listserv. A longer version of this article, titled "It Takes Two to Tango," will appear in the Journal of Student Centered Learning, Volume 1, Issues 1, 2003, pg 19-28. 11/17/2002: Important message from the TAs:
Due to an overwhelming number of conflicts in scheduling between both TA's, students, and students who never signed up for a presentation this week, ALL MONDAY PRESENTATIONS ARE RESCHEDULED TO TUESDAY, 11/19!
If you have a Monday time, please come at the same time on Tuesday instead. All three TA's will be available Tuesday so we will be grading the projects concurrently. If you do not have an appointment, or need to change your appointment, please come any time between 1-4pm and between the three of us, we should be able to squeeze you in.
You do not need to have anything written prepared for Tuesday, but you should have examples of your code lined up to show us. While we emphasize functionality as being key to your demo, we also need to navigate through the site, thus simple navigation features (such as links or a toolbar) should be implemented.
11/17/2002: The slides from Scott's lecture on November 13 are online.
11/14/2002: Johannes is out of town on November 15, and his office hours are cancelled.
11/14/2002: The Stored Procedures Assignment is out. The due date for this assignment is Monday, November 25, 2002 at 23:59pm and it needs to be handed in via the course management system.
10/12/2002: A list of frequently asked questions for the JSP Assignment has been started.
10/10/2002: Johannes' office hours for 10/11 have been cancelled; he has extra office hours on Wednesday, 10/16 from 11am-noon in 4105B Upson.

10/08/2002: Information how to run SQL Server with Apache in the Computer Science Undergraduate Lab. Please follow the setup instructions carefully. As described in the setup instructions, you will have to download the files msbase.jar, mssqlserver.jar, and msutil.jar (they are in one. zip file) and put the contents in the folder Z:\CS433\ROOT\WEB-INF\lib. The JSP assignment will come out today.

9/23/2002: The deadlines for the design document have been extended. You can hand in a draft of the proposal on September 25 in class, and the TAs will give you feedback, but this draft will not be formally graded (and handing in a draft is not mandatory). The final design document is due on October 16. Check out the schedule and deadlines. Also check out the updates in the course links below.
9/12/2002: Handing in Assignment 1: Please hand in a hardcopy of your project proposal to Andrea Cleveland in 4105 Upson Hall either September 12 or early September 13. We will be using the course management system starting with the next assignment.
