I am interested in the role and practices of scholarly communication, and how they vary across disciplines and research fields. I would like to develop a systematic understanding of those variations, and their impact on how research communities embrace changes to the scholarly communication system, such as Open Access (see Berlin Declaration on Open Access).
In summer 2005, I joined the Information Science PhD program at Cornell University. Here a glimpse into the life of a PhD student in the U.S.A. In my dissertation research project I plan to combine quantitative network analysis methods and qualitative ethnographic methods to study and compare scholarly communication cultures.
