What's a type?

Below are several definitions of type.



A distinctive mark or sign.
A group of people or things that share similar characteristics
(e.g. "they sell pliars and screwdrivers and that type of thing.")
A set of values together with operations on them.
A style and size of letters used in printing
(e.g. "use an italic type for emphasis.")
