Feel free to see any member of the course staff to get help on catching up with the course materials. If you have a regrade request, please submit it to a consultant during consulting hours by Tuesday, 11/24. Do NOT just read the solutions posted on the course website!!! If you've done poorly on a question, you must RE-DO it, perhaps with the help of a member of the course staff, in order to learn the material. Just reading the solution will NOT help much.
11/16 M Exercise 12 Be sure to submit Fraction.m of Exercise 12 on CMS by 11pm tonight.
11/11 W CMCM Cornell Mathematical Contest in Modeling: a weekend competition in which teams of undergraduate students build mathematical models for a real-world problem. Interested? 11/5 Th Week 10 survey Please fill out the week 10 survey on CMS by Saturday 11pm but sooner is better. It should take fewer than 4 minutes and it'll help us prepare the materials for the review sessions. Thanks!
11/5 Th Preparing for Prelim 2 The topics, review questions, and old example prelims have been posted and the solutions will be posted by Tuesday. We will have two optional review sessions: (1) the Sunday session will focus on conceptual review to guide your own studying and, among other things, use the SP15 old exam to review problem-solving strategies. (2) the Wednesday session will be a "just-in-time" review session mostly driven by your questions and additionally address the parts of the FA14 exam that students find challenging. Please see the Exams → Prelim 2 page for details.
11/3 Tu Computer games Need to take a break from studying? Check out these games developed by students in CS 4154 Analytics-Driven Game Design! In addition to getting a break, you will be giving CS4154 students valuable data for game development. Many thanks! And if you're interested in game design yourself, then plan to sign up for ENGRD/CS 2110 Object-Oriented Programming and Data Structure, which is a prereq for developers in CS 4154.

M
Discussion location Discussion this week will be held in the computer lab Upson B7. Go to the lab this week, not the classrooms listed on the roster.
10/25 Su Prelim 1 regrade request Please submit your regrade request, if any, by the end of the consulting hours (10pm) on Monday, 10/26. Submit it to a consultant on duty. The correct deadline was given in the Piazza post/email that announced the return of prelim 1, but an earlier announcement posted here mistakenly gave a date from last spring.
10/23 F P4 reduced late penalty Several students have asked for extra time to complete the project, but unfortunately we cannot extend the deadline because the next project and then the next prelim will follow shortly. We will, however, decrease the late penalty from 1 point to 0.5 point. Our message is to please do your best to finish your work for P4 by the Monday due date, but if you do need to take an extra day you can take it and the late penalty is minimal.
10/21 W P4B Project 4 Part B has been posted. See the Projects link. Both Parts A and B are due on Monday, 10/26, at 11pm.
Remember to adhere to the Code of Academic Integrity.
10/19 M Prelim 1 return Please pick up your prelim 1 paper during consulting hours (Sunday-Thursday 5-10pm) at ACCEL Green Room in Caprenter Hall. You must bring your student ID card and show it to a consultant. Please read our feedback and the statistics. Feel free to see any member of the course staff to get help on catching up with the course materials. If you have a regrade request, please submit it to a consultant during consulting hours by Thursday, March 19th Monday, 10/26. Do NOT just read the solutions posted on the course website!!! If you've done poorly on a question, you must RE-DO it, perhaps with the help of a member of the course staff, in order to learn the material. Just reading the solution will NOT help much.
10/18 Su P4A Project 4 Part A has been posted. See the Projects link. Part B will be posted later. Both parts are due on Monday, 10/26, at 11pm.
Remember to adhere to the Code of Academic Integrity.

10/8 Th Mid-semester survey Please fill out the mid-semester survey on CMS by Sunday 11pm. It should take fewer than 5 minutes.
10/5 M Prelim 1 review Topics, review questions, and old prelims have been posted on the Exams→Prelim 1 link. Solutions will be posted on the last day of Fall Break. There will be two optional review sessions on Wednesday, 10/14: 5-6:30pm and 7:30-9:00pm in Hollister B14. Go to one of them if you wish.
9/30 W computer games Want to play computer games designed by students in CS 4154 Analytics Driven Game Design? Visit Snee 1150 some time from 10:10am to 11:25am on Thursday. Have fun!
9/29 Tu no find In P3, do not use built-in function find (as that would involve the use of vectorized code). Please use loops and conditionals to solve the problem as one of the objectives of P3 is to learn to work with vector components using loops.
9/26 Sa P3B Project 3 Part B has been posted. See the Projects link. Both parts A and B are due on Monday, 10/5, at 11pm.
Remember to adhere to the Code of Academic Integrity.
9/23 W P3A Matlab versions Depending on the version of Matlab that you are using to run your code, you will need to use a different property in the fill statement of Problem 1.1:
Version R2014a or earlier: fill(x,y,c,'line','none') (as stated in the project description)
Version R2014b or later: fill(x,y,c,'LineStyle','none')
Thanks to the students who asked about it after lecture and/or wrote about it in Piazza!
9/23 W Lecture recording A recording of lecture 9 has been posted on the Lecture Materials page.
In the upcoming days, we will post the recordings of past lectures, if available (some of the early "trials" didn't work), so that you can use them as a study aid. Watching a captured lecture is not a good substitution for attending lecture, asking and answering questions, and participating in real-time to think through ideas and challenges! Skipping lecture and depending entirely on the captures is a bad idea and will hurt your understanding of the course materials. We provide the capture so that you can more easily check and correct your notes; use them wisely.
9/23 W P3A Project 3 Part A has been posted. See the Projects link. Part B will be posted later. Both parts are due on Monday, 10/5, at 11pm.
Remember to adhere to the Code of Academic Integrity.
9/18 F Final exam date The date of the final exam has been set by the university: December 9th (Wednesday) 7-9:30pm.
9/14 M Late AEW enrollment The regular "add deadline" has passed, but you still can add an AEW by filling out an "add/drop form", available in Olin Hall 167, any department office, or registrar office. You will need a stamp (dept approval) from Olin Hall 167 and possibly a signature by your advisor.
9/9 W P2 Project 2 has been posted. See the Projects link. Due Thursday, 9/17, at 11pm.
Suggestion: Do Problems 1 and 2 now but you can wait until after Tuesday's lecture to do Problems 3 and 4 since that lecture will further explain loops and nested loops. It's important to start the project now--don't leave everything for next week!
9/4 F Labor Day Monday is Labor Day, which is a university holiday, so there will be no office/consulting hours that day. In general, there will be no office/consulting hours during academic breaks (e.g., Fall Break) and university holidays. Enjoy the holiday!
8/28 F Clicker registration Please register your clicker. You must use this link to register your clicker since CS1112 does not use Blackboard. So even if you already have registered this semester using a Blackboard link for a different course, you still must register again using the link above. Thanks.
Your clicker's ID is worn off? Get help here.
8/28 F Survey Please fill out "Week 1 Survey" on CMS to help us learn about you! The survey will remain open until Wednesday, 9/2.
8/28 F P1 Project 1 has been posted. See the Projects link. Due Thursday, 9/3, at 11pm. You may (1) work individually or (2) work with one project partner and submit the project jointly. For a joint project, you must register your group in CMS before submitting any file.
Suggestions: Do Problem 1 now but you can wait until after Tuesday's lecture to do Problem 2 since that lecture will cover the material that you will need for Problem 2. Or you can read Insight 1.2 early, which covers that material. The main message is to start the project now--don't leave everything for the day before P1 is due!
8/26 W Clicker registration Please register your clicker with Cornell, not the iClicker company. You need to register your clicker once every semester; this one registration is good for all courses in a semester.
Your clicker's ID is worn off? Get help here.
