Date Topic Description
4/14   T Computer Science Coffeehouse Please attend the Computer Science Coffeehouse, Wednesday April 15th 4:30-5:30 at the Tatkon Center.  More information is here. PDF   PPT
4/13  M Section this week Section (discussion section) this week will be held in the computer lab Upson B7. Go to the lab this week, not the classrooms listed on the roster.
4/9   T Change in Office Hours Professor Van Loan will be out of town and has cancelled his office hours for Friday, April 10.
4/7  T Test functions independently In Project 5, test each function independently. For example, after implementing newRunMap you can test it independent of the rest of the program by executing this call in the Command Window:
     newRunMap('IthacaNETrails.jpg')
Similarly, to test newRun independently you would just type newRun() in the Command Window. Execute the whole program via RunLog only after ReadData has been implemented; otherwise you could get an error message about "converting from struct to double" (since the stub in ReadData initializes the Events struct array to be the empty vector).
4/7  T Prelim 3 Review Review questions have been posted. See the Exams link. Solutions will be posted on Sunday evening.
4/6   M P3 Gallery Take a look at our gallery of cool figures produced in Project 3!
4/6  M Prelim 3 Prelim 3 is on April 14 at 7:30pm. If you have a university-allowed conflict email Bill Hogan no later than April 8. Specify the conflicting course and event.
4/16   M Section this week Section (discussion section) this week will be held in the classrooms, as listed on the roster.
4/5 Su P5 deadline extended Project 5 due Friday, April 10th, at 11pm.
4/3  F function image In an array that stores image data, row 1 corresponds to the top of the image, which is opposite to the y-axis in the Cartesian coordinate system. Function image automatically reverses the y-direction for us when displaying array data, so we must write the first call to image before hold on. (Let Matlab flip the y-axis before we "hold" the axes.) This has been done for you already in the skeleton code.
4/1  W P5 Project 5 has been posted. Due Thursday, April 9th.
3/31  T Review Session There will be a "catch-up" review session on Wednesday 5:45-7pm, Upson 315. We will review Prelim 2 and related questions. Consider coming to this session if you scored below 60 on Prelim 2 and haven't gone over it with course staff yet.

2/17 T Clicker & Quiz 1 scores If you answered any question at all for Quiz 1 with your registered clicker, you received one point. Clicker usage is recorded according to each clicker's unique ID, so we can still manually link your NetID with your point for Quiz 1 (if you had used your clicker for Quiz 1). Send Professor Fan your NetID and clicker ID before Thursday, Feb 19, if your clicker is still not registered. This is the last chance to register your clicker this semester. You must email your clicker ID--online registration no longer applies after the coursenroll add period.

Clicker registration data have been downloaded from the registration website. If you took the quiz but haven't registered yet, register in lecture on Thursday to get credit for Quiz 1 retroactively.
2/9  M Reading from Insight Keep up with the reading! In particular you need to read Section 3.2 for this week's section exercise.
2/9  M P1 graded Please read the Grading Guide and solutions posted on the Projects page even if you got 10 out of 10. When grading projects, we point out both errors and weaknesses so that you can improve. However, we do not take a point off for every error/weakness. On the grading guide you see that we give "freebies" in both the correctness and style categories. Therefore only if you have multiple errors/weaknesses would you lose points.
2/9  M Section this week Section (discussion section) this week will be held in the computer lab Upson B7. Go to the lab this week, not the classrooms listed on the roster.
