The Salomaa Prize is named after Arto Salomaa, a Finnish mathematician and computer scientist who was one of the founding fathers of automata theory – the study of abstract, self-propelled computing machines and the problems they can solve – and a co-founder of the Developments in Language Theory (DLT) conference.

An ACM Fellow is a member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) who has achieved outstanding accomplishments in the fields of computing and information technology or made exceptional contributions to the larger computing community.
