Education of a Video Game Programmer

The video game industry is in a continuous state of rapid change. Software developers working in video games must have the capability to adapt to this change, and even influence its direction.

This talk discusses the role of higher education in game development critiquing the current state of affairs and looking at possible future directions.

Chris McEvoy is a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where he studied engineering and computer science. He has worked professionally in video games for 10 years. As a programmer he wrote code for several titles including Terminus, Spider-Man: Enter Electro, Crash Nitro Kart, and Doom 3. Chris works at Vicarious Visions, a game developer in upstate New York and northern California.  In his spare time, Chris is practicing to break the world record for the most lima beans eaten in one day.
