Many engineering research projects currently face a dichotomy between the Unix environment, dominant for the workstations and supercomputers currently used for modeling and large-scale numerical simulation, and the Windows NT environment used for data analysis and document preparation tasks. A common theme in these areas is the porting and development of new numerical and modeling codes to IA machines running Windows NT, and investigating the power of clusters of multi-processor machines as alternatives to supercomputers.

The applications being explored include projects in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Operations Research and Industrial Engineering, and Environmental Engineering.
