  Course Description:  
  This project is an exploration of the processes of computer game design. In addition to technical topics in artificial intelligence, computer graphics, physics and music, we will explore the history of computer games, the game development proces, and violence in media and video games. Students will be expected to explore original game ideas and learn to work in groups while learning new techniques. The last seven weeks we will develop final game projects in collaboration with students in music and art.  
     
  Credits & Prerequisites:  
  3 credits in Fall/Spring, 0 in the Summer. No specific required courses  
  Some programming experience is expected of CS majors. Art majors must be sophomores, juniors or seniors and seeking a BFA or MFA.  
     
  Syllabus:  
  7 weeks - Required and Optional Lectures (/w homeworks)  
  5 weeks - Team Projects: Game Development  
  3 weeks - Collaboration with Prof. David Borden and student in the Department of Music  
     
  Grading, Attendance & Homework:  
  Final projects will be graded in the range of C to A+ based on the following criteria (in order):  
  - Completion of the final project (a completed game)  
  - Balance of technical and aesthetic content  
  - Technical and aesthetic quality of the project  
  - Final project presentations  
  - Ability to work and communicate with your group  
  - Group participation in class  
     
  Both instructors will give grades in the range of C to A+ based on the criteria above. These will be averaged to give your final project grade (averages above B will be rounded up, averages below B will be rounded down)  
     
  Your final project grade, between C and A+, will be adjusted to between D and B+ based on the following:  
  - 1/2 grade letter for each attendance missed  
  - 1/2 grade letter for each homework not completed
