Workshop schedule
The workshop day is Sunday May 6, 2012, and the final
schedule for the day is:
9:00-9:30 Opening
Agenda, common definitions, issues, and topics
identified from the position papers.
9:30-10:30
Introductions
"Around the table" 2-minute-madness to let everyone
present oneself: name, affiliation, disciplinary
background, and an example (product/practice) of
simplicity and technology, or a counter-example of
complexity and technology.
10:30-11:00 Coffee
break
11:00-11:30 Ice-breaker
activity
11:30-12:30 Brainstorming
This session will draw on the previous
ice-breaker activity, and identify issues, questions,
challenges, and opportunities related to sustainability
and simple living.
12:30-1:45 Lunch break
1:45-3:30 Breakout activity
Small groups will execute an activity stimulated by the
brainstorming session. Examples:
Design exercise: develop a design prototype
that responds to issues of simplicity and human
sustainability (e.g., storyboard, sketches, or paper
prototype).
Research exercise: develop and pilot a research
plan that investigates notions of simplicity. (e.g.,
interviewing and observing other conference
participants).
3:30-4:00 Coffee break
4:00-5:00 Group presentations and discussion
Sharing processes and outcomes from groups with time for
Q&A.
5:00-6:00 Final
synthesis discussion
Synthesis of day’s issues and proposals, reflecting on
key ideas and themes, discussing possibilities for
future work, collaborations, and publications.
About 7 pm
Post-workshop dinner
We will make reservations for a self-paid dinner. More
details to follow!
