About Me
I am a fourth year PhD student in the department of Computer Science at Cornell where my advisor is Prof. David Shmoys. I hold a degree in computer science from University College Cork, Ireland.
My research focuses tackling combinatorial optimization from both a thereotical and empirical perspective; applying tools from operations research, approximation algorithms, mixed integer programming, data science and maching learning to solve real world problems.
Outside research my interests lie in rugby, windsurfing, sailing and travel.
Citibike
I have been working on a collaboration between Cornell and NYC Bike Share (operators of Citibike). We have been working on intelligent tools to help manage the bike share system. We have been investigating questions of bike placement: where are bikes needed, when are they needed, and how do we get them there?
We have been applying state of the art tools from data science and combinatorial optimization to put in place intelligent tools to help manage the system. The analysis of the bike share system has also generated classes of novel optimization probems that require the creation of new thereotical tools.
