The Cornell Bowers community celebrated four faculty recognized for their excellence in research and five faculty recognized for excellence in teaching and advising in a ceremony held Sept. 26 in Gates Hall.

"It is a way to recognize what our faculty and staff do, and the excellence they bring," said Thorsten Joachims, Jacob Gould Schurman Professor in the Departments of Computer Science and Information Science and interim dean. "I think the awards that we get from our own community and that reflect our own values are special."

Provost Kavita Bala initiated the awards in 2022 while she was dean of the Cornell Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science.

During the ceremony, Joachims introduced seven new Bowers faculty members who joined the college this fall – three from the 2025 hiring season and four from the 2024 hiring season. He also announced new faculty promotions and tenure decisions.
