Security Resources

This page contains a comprehensive list of links to cryptography and security. Especially useful to researchers are the links to conferences, publications, and projects on cryptography and security.

Links to cryptographers' web sites, research projects, books, and so on.

Electronic letter of IEEE Computer Society's Technical Committee on Security and Privacy, keep researchers updated and in touch.

I have been a subscriber of Information Security Magazine for quite a while now and I really enjoy reading it. Compared to the previous links, information security magazine is more biased towards the information security industry. The magazine covers a wide variety of interesting segments in the information security industry and contains articles that are both educational and informative. In fact, some of the links listed below were brought to my attention by information security magazine.

If you are developing secure programs for Unix or Linux, then do check out Secure Programming for Linux and Unix HOWTO by David Wheeler. The guide will help you get around some common security pitfalls.

Bruce Schneier, author of the so-called Bible book Applied Cryptography, is the main reason I visited counterpane's web site. He is one of the founders of the company. If you like his book, then you may want to try his Crypto-Gram newsletter.

If you would like to become an expert on digital cash, then start from this web page by J. Orlin Grabbe. The page contains links to articles on the theoretical foundations of digital cash solutions (e.g., The Mathematical Ideas Behind Digital Cash and Cryptography and Number Theory for Digital Cash, as well as non-mathematical introductions, such as Concepts in Digital Cash. A series of surveys on various Internet payment schemes is also available (Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3).

Most famous on security focus is probably BugTraq, "a moderated mailing list for the detailed discussion and announcement of computer security vulnerabilities". The library section of the site contains some interesting papers. I also find the "incident" part of the site quite resourceful.

Security Portal has tons of information on security. Kurt's closet is one of my favorites, covering a variety of security-related issues with quite educational articles.

A collection of informative essays on information security from a security guru.

        An RSA publication.
