The paper gives an overview of the JPEG
(Joint Photographic Expert Group) standard, which includes DCT-Based
JPEG "lossy" compression and a predictive method for "lossless"
compression. It focuses in detail on the Baseline method which is a easy to be
implemented and sufficient for many applications.
Possible Use(s):
It is a nice introduction to JPEG standard. It is also useful to
those who want to implement JPEG codec.
Extensions:
Although JPEG tried to cover various applications. It would be helpful
to users if they could set up parameters for their own applications.
