Bill Gates Acquires Cornell University Department of Computer Science
University to provide training facility for future Microsoft employees in exchange for free software.

Ithaca, NY - April 1, 1996 - In a move that will revolutionize the way universities and corporations interact, Microsoft announced today that it has acquired Cornell University's Department of Computer Science. According to Bill Gates, Chairman and CEO of Microsoft, the new purchase will "greatly bolster our company's ability to prove its software correct. Moreover, Cornell's reputation as an outstanding educational institution provides the ideal training ground for future Microsoft employees."

Daniel Huttenlocher, the newly appointed Director of Training, helped arrange the deal. Citing low academic pay scales, Huttenlocher said "the sale was the only way to raise our salaries to reasonable levels. In addition, I got to take a free manager training course!"
