Research opportunities
Prospective graduate students
I'm really sorry to be unable to respond to individual inquiries; I'm trying to conserve my limited email-management time for current collaborations and duties.
But please don't take this as lack of interest! If you are thinking of working with me (perhaps jointly with other of my excellent Cornell colleagues), please indicate the following in your application:
- Your interest in, or at least tolerance for, language as a complex phenomenon of fascination in its own right. (If you just want the language reduced to embeddings before you touch it, we are probably not a good match.)
- Your willingness and experience in seriously "looking at the data", by which I mean often poring over the (training) data to gain better understanding of the phenomenon of interest or your code's behavior on it.
- A clever NLP/ML experiment that you did, or that you read/heard about and admire.
Cornell undergraduate or masters students seeking research opportunities
I am hoping to post an application form for Fall 2026 by end of August or early September; check back here then!
People who are not Cornell students seeking an internship or postdoc
- No remote internships or postdocs ever available: my (already fallible) "supervision" abilities are far too attenuated in online-only settings.
- No positions for high school students ever available: I am sorry, but to make it feasible to carefully review applications, I need to make this policy choice to reduce the number to consider.
- In-person positions: none available Fall 2026 through Summer 2027, inclusive.
