Course Objectives and Scope

A small numer of techniques are used over and over in modern computer systems. The techniques, which concern system structure and supporting system-wide properties, are the subject of this course. We study the technqiues in isolation and by studying systems in which they have been instantiated. Examples will be drawn from operating systems, computer architecture, databases, computer networks, and distributed systems.
