in 215 Upson Hall. Project presentation and demo: Friday, May 10, from

- 8 Apr 2002: It is very important
that you show me a draft of your presentation the week before you will
be presenting in class. This will give you sufficient time to get some
feedback so that you can refine your presentation. If you are planning to
present only one paper in class, please contact me to find out which paper
you should present.
- 29 Mar 2002: I have modified the
course timeline to address some dependencies. Please take a look to see
whether you will be presenting your paper(s) on an earlier/later day. I have
also changed one of the readings for publish/subscribe systems.
- 29 Mar 2002: Here is the new schedule
for the final exam and project demonstration. The new schedule is designed to give you more
time to implement your project. Final exam: May 6 (Monday) evening. Project
presentation/demo: May 10 (Friday) afternoon. Project report due:
May 12 (Sunday) midnight. If you have any conflicts, please let me know
before April 2 (Tuesday). I will be finalizing the rooms and times soon after
that.
- 25 Mar 2002: It is very important
that you show me a draft of your presentation the week before you will
be presenting in class. This will give you sufficient time to get some
feedback so that you can refine your presentation. If you are planning to
present only one paper in class, please contact me to find out which paper
you should present.
- 25 Mar 2002: The project presentations
and demos will be held on the afternoon of May 6. The project reports are
due on May 7 and the final exam will be held on May 9. Please let me know
ASAP if you have any conflicts.
- 07 Mar 2002: For next Tuesday's
class: (a) please decide among yourselves as to whether you want an
in-class or a take-home final exam; the in-class exam will be closed book
but relatively easy, while the take-home exam will be open book but quite
hard, (b) I will spend the first few minutes finishing up the sorting slides
that I was unable to complete in today's class.
- 07 Mar 2002: Here is a summary of the
changes to the course structure that we discussed in class today. (a) Weekly
assignments will now count for 20% of the overall grade (increased from
10%), (b) the final exam will now count for only 10% of the overall grade
(reduced from 20%), (c) comments will be posted anonymously, along with the
grade, so that you can see how to write comments that receive a high grade,
(d) you get to choose whether you want to present one or both papers in
class (your grade will not be affected in any significant way because of
your choice). Also, remember: Class participation accounts for 5% of
your overall grade. If you have not been participating in class discussions
so far, now is the time to start.
- 05 Mar 2002: Important reminder.
Please show me a draft of your presentation the week before you will
be presenting in class. This will give you sufficient time to get some
feedback so that you can refine your presentation.
- 21 Feb 2002: The course timeline has
been updated. Please take a look for the updated schedule and new papers.
- 8 Feb 2002: The lecture slides and
student comments are now available online (click on the course timeline).
Also, check out the web supplement
for the text book.
- 8 Feb 2002: The replica of the course
timeline available outside the CS firewall is no longer available. If you do
not have a CS account yet, please stop by 4105 Upson to fill out an account
application form.
- 5 Feb 2002: If you have not done so
already, please send me an email as to when your project group would
like to schedule your weekly progress/feedback meetings. I am trying to
schedule all these meetings on Fridays, so please send me a list of times
when you are free on those days.
- 31 Jan 2002: There are three papers
that we will be reading next month (including one for next class) for which
electronic versions are not available. However, all three readings are
available in the text book. If you do not have the text book, and do not
have access to one, then please contact Andrea Cleveland (4105 Upson) after
noon tomorrow to get hard copies of the papers.
- 29 Jan 2002: Henceforth, please email
your CS632 comments to the alias cs632@cs.cornell.edu.
The TA for the course will grade your comments, and also post your comments
on the course web page so that other students can read it and think about
the issues that you have raised.
- 29 Jan 2002: Student comments for
today's reading are available here (and
from the course timeline).
- 25 Jan 2002: Project decisions need to
be made by January 31. The updated list of suggested projects is now
available (see below). I strongly suggest that you discuss your project
preferences with me before you make your final decision. I will be sticking
around after class on January 29 in case you want to meet then.
Alternatively, you can meet me during my office hours on Wednesday
(11am-noon), or set up an appointment to meet with me before January 31.
- 25 Jan 2002: Your email summary of the
papers to be discussed in each lecture should include the following: (a)
summary of the papers, (b) issues that you are not clear about, (c) possible
weaknesses of the papers, and (d) possible extensions to the papers. Please
send these comments to me (
)
with no attachments by midnight on the day before the lecture. Also,
please write "CS632 comments" as the subject of the email. All
your comments will be posted on the course web page.
- 23 Jan 2002: For copyright reasons,
you have to be inside the Cornell
Computer Science firewall to access the course timeline.
