All lecture notes have now been posted. Thanks to all those who
put in work scribing lectures!
A solution to the sample final exam has been posted on CMS.
Solutions to PS3 and PS5 are on CMS; solutions to PS4 are
coming there soon too.
An example final exam (and solution)
have been posted on CMS. The exam is on
Thursday at 9am, Olin 245. It will be an open book exam covering
the entire material of the course, although it will stress
the topics covered since the prelim.
There will be a review session on Tuesday at 3pm, in Upson 111.
PS5 may be submitted up to Monday at 10am with a 10% late penalty.
The long-awaited programming part to PS5 has been released. Have fun!
PS 5 has been updated with small corrections, simplifications, and hints to Problem 1. One of the parts has been
eliminated/folded into a previous part. Solutions to the original version of the problem will be accepted of course.
The latest version is marked Nov. 21.
Based on the results of the poll,
The makeup lecture will be given on Monday, November 28 at 11:15am and again on Tuesday at 1:25pm. Location TBA.
The exams have been graded and can be picked up from the department
assignment return location. Here is
a smoothed histogram of exam scores.
Vertical axis measures number of students per score, area under
the curve is the number of students in the class.
Copies of Turbak and Gifford chapters 7–9 can be obtained
from Bill Hogan. Send him email at whh to request that
he make you a copy.
The LaTeX source for PS3 has been posted, by student request.
Everything on the web site should now be accessible again. Sorry about
the problems; they arose when CFS moved the web site to a new machine.
A corrected version of PS3 has been posted (Oct 13). In problem 2 you were supposed to prove
that the property holds for e', not e.
The preliminary exam will be open book. This means that you can bring the textbooks,
the scribed notes, and your own notes. Any loose-leaf notes you bring should be
stapled together securely to avoid accidental spillage. You are advised to study
as if the prelim is closed-book, because you probably won't have time to spend
consulting the books.
Assignment 3 is now available on CMS. Unlike previous assignments,
on this one you may do the written problems with a partner.
Solutions to ps2 are in CMS (the solutions are split up between the written and programming parts).
A sample CS 611 prelim from 2004 is now available on CMS.
Assignment 2 is represented on CMS as two assignments. Part 4 is the
programming assignment and may be done by groups of up to two students.
Use the "invite" feature of CMS to construct your group. The written
part of the assignment may be submitted through CMS to the other part
of the assignment, but need not be.
A number of students whose email was erroneously classified as spam
have been added to CMS. If you still do not have access, please
send plain ASCII email to both course staff members. Please make
sure you are using the new CMS system at
cms3.csuglab.cornell.edu.
Due to a schedule change, Mike's office hours have been changed to Tuesday, 2:30-3:30. He will be in the office at 11:30 tomorrow as well, due to the short notice.
