Midpoint presentation
You should be meeting regularly with your client throughout the semester, getting feedback on your requirements modeling, UI designs, etc. But CS 5150 also requires two formal presentations attended by both your client and a member of the course staff. The midpoint presentation must be given around the end of second sprint.
Your presentation time is limited to 5-7 minutes, of which at least 1-2 minutes should be reserved for questions (you should expect, and encourage, interruptions by the audience, as client understanding and feedback is critical to a successful project). All members of each team must be present. Every team member must present a portion of at least one of the two formal presentations. Be sure to come prepared and rehearsed and to practice good presentation etiquette.
The following topics would be appropriate for the midpoint presentation:
- Confirm agreement on scope and goals
- What have you agreed to deliver? How is “success” defined?
- Summary of progress so far
- Review understanding of requirements
- Show system-level designs, user interface mock-ups, and/or working code
- Review results of user studies and user testing
- Raise technical hurdles and blockers (in detail appropriate for client)
- Discuss remaining plan to complete and deliver project
- Changes since feasibility study
- Unexpected events and impact of risks
- Updated schedule (tip: work backwards from delivery)
For external projects, if your client cannot come to class, please co-ordinate with the instructor to setup a meeting time outside class hours. Your instructor and client must be present during the meeting.
We will share a link on canvas to sign up for presentation slots. You must upload your presentation slides to the shared drive by end of day before presentation day with the name “[TEAM_ID]_midpoint_presentation.pptx” OR add a link to the slides in the sign up sheet. To reduce the switching time, we will use the same laptop for all presentations.
