The clients have written the following description of the project.
Strong AI is a mobile app that aims to improve the experience for novice gym goers.
Gym goers who are new to equipment and are unfamiliar with technique risk injury or ineffective workouts when they do not use equipment or ask for the assistance of a personal trainer at the gym. However, personal trainers are prohibitively expensive for many, and the social stigma associated with asking others for help prevents newbies from asking questions to strangers. Strong AI uses communicational affordances to help users record themselves, providing visual and audio cues that help users correct their form on major exercises in real time and on playback. There are in-built features to protect the privacy of others who may not want to be recorded by the primary user.
We expect Strong AI to be used by novices in home and commercial gym environments, helping people get up to speed on popular workouts in a safe and secure manner.
This project gives you the opportunity to work with a team that is trying to solve a simple but very real problem. We are technology agnostic and will work with you to ensure that we play to your strengths as a software engineering team. Our two co-founders currently work full time at Deloitte and Microsoft as a Consultant and Program Manager respectively, with backgrounds in machine learning, consulting, software development and product management. We will be actively involved in all stages of the project and are happy to consult on technical design choices and methodologies, keeping in mind considerations like scalability and expansion, once the app is public. Provided we release an MVP to the public, we are open to continued collaboration with the team in the future. We hope that over the course of the semester, you can learn from us and we promise to take every opportunity to learn from you! Please don't hesitate to contact us with any questions.
The client has already produced a short research paper with the initial scope of the project. This research paper contains a proof of concept and a low fidelity prototype, based on information gathered through surveys, in-person interviews and demonstrations. This paper and all its references will be made available to the student team for reference and review.
Ideally, the deliverables for this project are:
