Online Group Study Client Professor Malte Jung, Department of Information Science Student contact Hao Zheng (hz356@cornell.edu) is setting up a team for this project. If you are interested in joining the team, please contact him. Background You may have seen ads like "Participants needed for an experiment on web information search". Usually participants are asked to perform some tasks and answer some questions. Now, we are building a platform where participants can do these things online. The goal is to develop an open source software system that can be used by all social science disciplines. Project Requirements The client's research group has developed a preliminary version of a platform that brings together groups of crowd-workers to simultaneously work on a set of tasks. The goals for this platform are to enable new forms of crowd-work in teams and to allow researchers to study these teams. Currently the system is only operable by a researcher. The client needs a user interface that would allow other researchers and designers to experiment with the platform. In addition, the system needs increased flexibility to support a wider range of researchers. This project is particularly suitable for a group of students who are interested in user interface design, open source software, and methods of research in the social sciences. Technically it should be based on modern web technology using the existing platform as a foundation. |
