Project Suggestion:
Cornell Buses
|
Cornell Buses Client Joe Lalley, Cornell University Senior Director of Facilities Operations Project The Cornell Transportation department collects GPS information in real time about the location of the buses that the department operates for the Campus-to-Campus service between the Ithaca campus and the medical school in New York City. This data is stored in a MSSQL database. The goal of this project is to make this data available to members of the Cornell community, displaying the location of a bus based on the rider's reservation. The reservation system is an asp.net based web application stored in the same schema as the GPS data. The idea is to show where the bus is relative to scheduled pick-up and anticipated arrival times. There are a variety of ways in which this information might be provided: a web application, an Android or iPhone app, or an interface to the Cornell TV service that displays the bus information real time on one of the channels, for example on the display in the lobby of the Cornell Club in NYC. It is probably too ambitious to develop all these interfaces during the time available for the CS 5150 project. The team will need to work with the client to establish priorities and develop a plan to meet the most important ones. |
