Student Disability Services

Objective

Student Disability Services (SDS), in conjunction with the Cornell Red Runner Courier Service, provides a paratransit bus/van system for students with permanent and temporary mobility impairments called CULift. Specific information can be found on the SDS web site at: http://www.clt.cornell.edu/campus/sds/Other_Accommodations/Transportation.html#culift.

The demands on the CULift program have increased over the last several years, making the scheduling and managing of rides more challenging for SDS, Red Runner dispatch, students, and drivers. The current system requires students to use e-mail and a completed document template to request rides. The information is manually entered into a FileMaker database, then exported and e-mailed to Red Runner in Excel. The data is then manually entered into Oracle Calendar (for scheduling drivers) as well as into Courier Complete, the database system that keeps track of all Red Runner jobs. Frequently ride times need to be adjusted by the dispatcher, which is communicated through additional e-mails to students and SDS.

SDS would like to have an interactive web-based method for students to both request rides and review their schedules and allow SDS and Red Runner to efficiently and effectively provide rides.
