Computer Science 414 is a introductory course on Operating Systems.
We will cover the usual points of interest: OS structure,
synchronization, memory management, networking, filesystems, and some
security and distributed systems. Towards the end of the class, we
will consider some more recent topics in OS research.
Here are the main administrative points of interest:

Class is held M-F 10-11:30 in Snee 1120.

The instructional staff consists of Tom Roeder. His office
is in RH 492, and office hours are from M-F 11:30-12:30, or by
appointment.
- Your grade in the class will be decided as follows:
- 6 to 8 assignments - 30%
- 1 prelim - 30%
- 1 final - 40%
- Cornell's standards of Academic Integrity will be upheld in this
course, as in every other. In particular, this means that you should
never submit any work you know not to be your own. You also may not
consult other students about the assignments. The penalties for
violation of these standards will be severe.
