NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS

THURSDAY, 5/8

ALL GRADES POSTED, FINAL EXAM ON MONDAY, 5/12

All grades have been posted. The right most column in the grades section is titled "FG" for final grade. This is your grade if you do not take the final exam. If you already have a 70 or better in this column you have passed th course and do not need to take the final exam.

If you have a 69 or lower, you will need to take the final exam. The final exam will be held Monday, May 12 at 12 noon in 110 Hollister.

If you have any questions as to whether or not you need to take the final exam, please email me.

SUNDAY, 4/27

PRELIM #2 TUESDAY GRADES POSTED, FOLDERS AVAILABLE

Prelim #2 will be given in class on Tuesday, 4/29 (12:20 - 1:10). The prelim will be proctored by Andrea Cleveland (I will be out of town that day). Since I will not be there I have included a comment sheet at the end of the prelim for anyone who wishes to voice problems/potential misunderstandings with any question on the prelim.

For those of you who turned in assignment 9 in class on Thursday, your assignments are graded.

You may pick up your envelopes from Andrea Cleveland on Monday. She is usually at her desk (4105 Upson) from 9 - 4:30.

Since I will be out of town on Tuesday (your prelim day), there will be no office hours on Tuesday, 4/29. I will hold office hours on Wednesday, 4/30, but Al will likely not hold them. For those anxious about their prelim grade, I may have them graded by Wednesday's office hours.

WEDNESDAY, 4/23

GRADES POSTED

I've updated the grades posting section. Let me know if you think you've submitted a waiver but you don't see your grades posted.

MONDAY, 4/21

ASSIGNMENT #9 UPDATE POSTED

The store.dat file posted earlier contained errors. The file has been fixed and available for download at the old location.

FRIDAY, 4/18

ASSIGNMENT #9 POSTED, PRACTICE PRELIM POSTED

Assignment #9 (the final assignment) is up on the web site. I've also put a practice prelim up for you to examine in preparation for prelim #2 on Tuesday, 4/29.

THURSDAY, 4/10

BRIEF EXTENSION FOR ASSIGNMENT #7

For those of you feeling the excitement of the Frozen Four and having a little bit of trouble concentrating on assignment #7, I will allow you to turn it in (under the door of 320 Upson) by midnight on Saturday. Please understand that I will not be giving extensions for assignment #8, which will be due next Thursday.

MONDAY, 4/7

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT ASSIGNMENT #7

The assignment calls for you to implement, among other things, a destructor. You do not need to do this! Again, you do not need to implement a destructor for the class you are implementing in assignment #7.

SATURDAY, 3/29

Due to the problems we had in lecture with the project on Thursday I've decided not to give an assignment this week. We will only have 9 assignments (instead of 10) this semester. Your next assignment will be posted on Thursday, April 3.

We will attempt the second Exceptions lecture again on Tuesday.

SUNDAY, 3/9 -- UPDATED 10:16PM

All assignment solutions (1-5) are now posted in the assignments section.

PRELIM EXAMINATION #1 ON TUESDAY, 3/11

Just a friendly reminder, you have your first prelim during class time on Tuesday 3/11. A practice prelim is available for download.

ASSIGNMENT SOLUTIONS (PARTIALLY) POSTED

Solutions for Assignment #1 - #3 are posted in the Assignments section. I will post 4 and 5 later tonight.

OFFICE HOURS THIS WEEK

I will hold special office hours on MONDAY, 3/10 for those of you with prelim questions. These office hours will be from 1PM to 4PM in 320 Upson Hall. You will also be able to pick up all graded assignments up to and including Assignment #5. Because of the special office hours on Monday I will be CANCELLING office hours on Tuesday and Wednesday. There is no assignment due this week, although assignment 6 will be posted by the end of Thursday and will be due the Thursday you return after Spring Break.

WEDNESDAY, 3/5

LECTURE NOTES and SAMPLE PRELIM POSTED

Lecture notes for Lecture #13 are posted. Also, you can download Practice Prelim #1 for an idea of what next week's prelim will be like.

Next week we have a prelim in class (during class time) on March 11. Please email me if you think you have a conflict and haven't spoken with me yet!

SATURDAY, 3/1

ASSIGNMENT #5 IS POSTED

The assignment header says it is due next Friday, but you may have until noon on Saturday, 3/8 to turn it in under the door of 320 Upson. As always, you should feel free to turn it on next Thursday in class, if you are done with it by then.

This assignment is by far the most difficult to date. Please make sure you leave yourselves time to think about the assignment before doing it. If you get your mind around the way inheritance and abstract classes work the assignment should seem straightforward.

THURSDAY, 2/27

THE POSTING OF ASSIGNMENT #5 WILL BE DELAYED

I will endeavor to post the assignment by end of day tomorrow, Saturday morning at the latest. You will have a full week to do the assignment, so if it gets posted tomorrow you will have until next Friday, and if it is posted Saturday you will have until next Saturday, etc.

TUESDAY, 2/18

TODAY'S LECTURE IS "POLITICS AND PROGRAMMING"
CLASS IS CANCELLED ON THURSDAY, 2/20
RON'S OFFICE HOURS CANCELLED THIS WEEK
ASSIGNMENT #4 IS DUE ON 2/27

Today, in class we will explore "Politics and Programming". There are no lecture notes to be posted, but this is a day for us to reflect on some of the problems you may encounter out in the "real world" which may not necessarily have anything to do with C++!

Assignment #4 will not be due until next Thursday, 2/27. You've got an extra week to get it right!

My office hours are cancelled this week. Al will still hold his Wednesday 5-6:30PM office hours. If you really need to get a hold of me, please send email!

FRIDAY, 2/7

The Lecture notes for Lecture 6 are finally up, and Assignment #3 has been posted. For those of you who have turned in a grade posting waiver form, I should begin to post grades after assignment #2 is graded.

TUESDAY, 1/28

I've posted office hours for both myself and our consultant. Check out the "Class Info" section for more information.

WEDNESDAY, 1/22

Assignment #1 has been posted. It is due next Thursday (1/30) either in class or in 320 Upson Hall (as per assignment guidelines in the "Class Info" section of this web site). This assignment may be very easy for some--please do not get discouraged if you think the assignments here are going to be too easy! View it as an opportunity to ease into the course and get familiarity with your development environment without having an overly taxing first assignment to boot!

Tomorrow in class we will be finishing the material from Tuesday and talking about functions in C++ as well. I will remind you that the first few lectures are going to have a lot of review material which you all are probably well familiar with. Please be patient as the newer material is not that far away!
