New users:
Read http://www.csuglab.cornell.edu/Info/policies.html.

Location:
The CSUGLabs are located in Upson Hall rooms 315, 319, and 330 and in Rhodes Hall room 453.

Hours:
The labs are normally open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. ADM technical support is available during normal working hours, Monday through Friday. Student consultants will be on duty during some off-hours, these times will be posted in the labs.

Access:
The combinations to the doors are available when you set your initial password (below), or you can see someone in 311 Upson. Please do not give the combination to anyone else, only those given the combinations by ADM staff are legitimate users of these labs.

Logging in:
To set the initial password for your account, follow these instructions. You do not need to go through this step if you already have a CSUG account because of another course you are taking this semester.

There is no UNIX workstation available for use in the lab. However, there is a UNIX host named turing.csuglab.cornell.edu, that you can access remotely. Your username on turing is your netid, and your password is the same as your CSUG password.

To connect to turing from the Windows machines in the the lab, you should use SSH. There is an SSH client installed (SSH Secure Shell for Windows) and available through the Start menu, but it is currently (26 Sep 04) out-of-date and will not connect to turing. I have informed ADM of the problem. Newer versions of the client will work. You can install the new SSH client yourself by running:

    \\crane\ntfiles\SSH Clients\SSH Secure Shell\SSHSecureShellClient-3.2.9.exe

You can also connect to babbage, another Unix host, using the old client.

You can also use Exceed to start an X session on turing. See the instructions at http://www.csuglab.cornell.edu/Info/ssh-x11.html.

If you want to connect to turing from outside the CSUG lab, you need to use an SSH client. PuTTY is a reasonable SSH client for Windows, if you need one. Another SSH client is here.
