SUMMARY:Brown bag: David Bindel
DESCRIPTION:Title: Contemplating collaboration\nSpeaker: David
Bindel\nAbstract: Collaborating on research helps us do things that
would be hard to manage on our own: couple theory to experiments\, work
across disciplinary boundaries\, and tackle more ambitious projects.
Collaborators are also an important part of our professional networks.
They are often the ones that write letters on our behalf\, invite us to
give colloquium and seminar talks\, and team with us on large grants.
But how does one get a collaboration started\, and what are the pitfalls
to watch for along the way? In this talk\, we discuss different types
of collaborations\, along with issues of starting collaborations\,
managing differences in work styles\, and thinking about authorship and
	 credit.
