SUMMARY:Brown bag: David Gries
DESCRIPTION:Title: Writing a compiler and getting a PhD in the
	 1960s\nSpeaker: David Gries\nAbstract: Gries\, a New Yorker\, happened
onto a compiler writing project in 1962 simply by chance\, as a Research
Assistant while a PhD student in Math at the University of Illinois. It
led him to get his PhD in Munich\, Germany. We'll look at pieces of the
compiler itself and talk about the trials and tribulations (and GOOD
things) about getting his PhD in Europe.
