The Legend of the Great Hero

Our Kingdom of Panafel was not always as peaceful as it is today. A long time ago, long before either you or I were born, even before Old Man Nell's time, the Kingdom was threatened by evil.

The Wizard Kraith kidnapped the ravishing Princess Muirne, and sought to use her in a ritual to summon the Dark Lord to this world. Many of the kingdom's bravest knights set out to rescue her, but all were slain by the wizard's fell beasts and incantations.

All hope seemed to be lost, and as the night of the new moon, when the ritual would commence, approached, despair overcame the people. And then, one foggy morning, a mysterious stranger wielding a spear emerged from the inpenetrable mists which border our Kingdom. This brave young man, though not of our people, nonetheless championed our cause. He defeated the wizard and rescued the princess from his clutches.

But he was too late. Despite having rescued the princess, the ritual had been partially completed. If nothing was done soon, the Dark Lord would eventually manage to enter this world. So together with the princess and many other allies, our hero travelled beyond the Forbidden Swamp to the Temple of the Ancients, bringing back the Dragon Spear, which he used to defeat the Dark Lord and seal him away forever.

During their journey, the Hero and the Princess fell in love, much like heroes and princesses tend to do. Upon returning victorious to the Castle of Panafel, after many nights of feasting and celebration, the Hero and the Princess were married with the full blessing of the King, the priesthood and the entire people of Panafel. And so the wandering hero lived out the rest of his life as the wise King Gain, whose bountiful rule is still unsurpassed even today.

Our Story Thus Far...

It is late Spring in the fifteenth year of his father's reign. Prince Andrew is, as usual, alone in the forest meadows practicing his spearsmanship and meditating on the peace and prosperity of his era. While most people would be pleased with such an age of happiness, Andrew is a dreamer, and so he spends his days daydreaming about the adventures of King Gain and Queen Muirne and wishing his life would be more eventful.

On this day, however, Andrew's peaceful meditation is interrupted by a scream from the nearby thicket. Rushing to the source of the scream, Andrew saw a beautiful and exotic girl being attacked by hideous creatures beyond his imagination. Andrew lept to the girl's aid, but was brushed aside by one swipe of a giant demon's claw.

When Andrew's manservant Pipo roused him from unconsciousnesshours later, there was no trace of either demons or the girl. However, Andrew was resolved to find and rescue the girl. Of course, the ever level-headed Pipo managed to convince him that is was all a dream, and that they should head back to the castle before dinnertime. Realizing that he hadn't eaten lunch, Andrew agreed that for the time being heading back to the castle was a good idea.

It was then that a normally peaceful Bambi burst from the bushes, goring Pipo with its horns. Unable to calm the animal down, Andrew had no choice but to slay it with his spear. However, Pipo was mortally wounded and unable to move. And so, Prince Andrew began to head back to the castle by himself to get help... if he can make past the strangely aggitated forest animals.
