NACLO 2009 at Cornell University

NACLO stands for the North American Computational Linguistics Olympiad. It is a contest in which high-school students solve linguistic puzzles. In solving the problems, students learn about the diversity and consistency of language, while exercising logic skills. No prior knowledge of linguistics or second languages is necessary. Professionals in linguistics, computational linguistics and language technologies use dozens of the world's languages to create engaging problems that represent cutting edge issues in their fields. The competition has attracted top students to study and work in those same fields. This is truly an opportunity for young people to experience a taste of natural-language processing in the 21st century. Cornell University is a local site for the contest.

The first round is on February 4, 2009. Top performers will be invited to the second round on March 11, 2009.

Cornell Competition sites
The NACLO open competition (Feb. 4, 2009) and the NACLO Invitational (Mar. 11, 2009) will both be held at 5126 Upson Hall, Cornell University.

Practice Session

We will be holding a practice and information session at 5126 Upson Hall, Cornell University on January 29, 2009 at 4:00 - 5:30pm. Any students interested should RSVP to Jennifer Wofford at wofford@cs.cornell.edu. PLEASE NOTE: If no RSVPs are received, the event will NOT be held.
