CUCS Web Training

Using FrontPage 98
Getting Started with
the FrontPage Explorer

Opening a
Web
After you've launched FrontPage Explorer from the Start Menu (under Programs), you will need to open your web. For this training, we'll be working with the "webwork" site on www.cs.cornell.edu.

When you open FrontPage, you will get a window that looks like this:

Getting Started Window

The window under "Open an Existing FrontPage Web" lists web sites you've worked with recently. If the web you want to work with is listed there, you can select it and choose "OK", but if it's not, you will have to click the More Webs button. (If the Getting Started window doesn't open, got to the File menu in the FrontPage Explorer and choose "Open FrontPage Web".)

If you've clicked "More Webs", the following window will appear:

Open FrontPage Web Window

You will need to type the web server name into the top field, then click "List Webs" to show all the web sites you can open (when you use it in the future, it will remember the server name). Once you have this list, find the web you want to open, select it, and click OK. Note: While you can just type "www" rather than the full "www.cs.cornell.edu", it's better to type the full name and domain, since failing to do so can cause links you create to work improperly.

Your web will now be open.
