Using FrontPage 98
Working with Images in
the FrontPage Editor

Insert an
Image
To insert an image in your page, you can:
  • Insert Image ButtonClick the Insert Image icon (shown here) in the toolbar, or
  • Choose "Image" from the Insert menu.

In the Image window that appears, you can browse your web for the appropriate images.

Windows Explorer IconIf the image you want to insert is not in your web already, but is stored on a local or network drive, click the Windows Explorer button (shown here), and browse to its location on your hard drive.

Image Window
Once the image has been inserted in your web page, you can control its properties by right-clicking on the image and choosing "Image Properties". There, you can give an image's alternate text representation, control its border thickness, adjust its size (though if you do this, the image's quality will suffer), and modify a number of other settings.

If you have Image Composer installed on your system, double-clicking an image will launch that program and open the image in it, allowing you to modify the image itself.

Creating
Image Maps
Image maps are single images with "hotspots" embedded in them. Clicking on different places within the image links to different pages or events. The menu at the top left of this page is an example of an image map.

Shape ToolsTo create an image map, insert the image into your page and select it. The Image Toolbar will appear at the bottom of your screen. Click on the rectangle to create a rectangular hot spot, the circle to make an elliptical one, or the irregular shape to create a freehand hotspot. After you've drawn the hotspot, a window will appear where you can link the spot either to a page within your web or to an outside URL.

To modify hotspot links after they're created, select the image, then right-click on the hotspot you want to modify it. Choose Image Hotspot Properties, then modify the URL as desired. To delete a hotspot, simply select it with a left-click and press the Delete key on your keyboard. To change the size of a rectangular or elliptical hotspot, select it, then drag on the corners with your left mouse button until it's the right size. You can move a hotspot by left-clicking in the center, holding the mouse button down, and dragging the shape to the appropriate place.
