I work in Video As Input (VAI) group, which is a part of Intel Architecture Lab (IAL) at Intel, Hillsboro, Oregon. We write prototypes of applications, which use video input (the goal is to make video input to be as useful as, say, the mouse input). In our projects, we use C/C++, COM, DirectShow (a.k.a. ActiveMovie), DirectX, Video for Windows, and other multimedia technologies.

Many of CS classes taught me the skills, which help me in my job. For example, I recently helped a video technology group on a research project involving Matlab, so the skills learned in CS222 (Introduction to Scientific Computation) came in handy. The knowledge gained in CS412/413 (Introduction to Compilers and Translators) helps me in writing efficient programs and in debugging. The knowledge of Operating Systems (CS414/415) helps me writing programs using multiple threads (and in many other areas!). In addition, all the project classes I took helped me to gain experience necessary in developing large programs.

One of my most favorite activities is designing and writing an application from scratch. Even if an application uses third-party libraries, structuring it from the ground up is a lot of fun. My least favorite activity is fixing problems with the source control system. Such problems are rare, but when they do come up, they tend be very time-consuming and tedious to fix.

Overall, I’m having a great time here at Intel. I would be happy to answer any questions via email.
