Learning Outcomes for Computer Science Majors at Cornell
The following Learning Outcomes for the majors summarize the most fundamental abilities a graduating student in Computer Science must have acquired during his or her studies at Cornell. They apply equally to the Computer Science major in the College of Engineering, as well as to the Computer Science major in the College of Arts and Sciences.
Students graduating with a major in Computer Science from Cornell:
1. have knowledge of Computer Science that is a combination of breadth and depth. Students will know the core concepts of computer science, and they will have knowledge in a relevant area of specialization within computer science.
2. are able to use computation and computational thinking to solve real-world problems of high complexity.
3. have the ability to communicate their ideas persuasively in written and oral form.
4. are prepared for graduate school or employment.
These Learning Outcomes are subject to continual review, and may be revised or augmented by additional Learning Outcomes in the future.
