Cornell's proposal to Intel addresses the core functions of the university: the creation and dissemination of ideas, knowledge, and understanding. The dramatic revolution in computation and communication will result in major changes in the way universities perform these core functions. The proposed research seeks to develop a new model for learning that can encompass these changes and grow with them to the year 2000 and beyond. The summary page provides a global view of the original proposal to Intel. The next three sections describe in turn our vision of a new learning environment at Cornell; the plan for achieving our vision and implementing the proposal; and the potential impact if our proposal is successfully carried out. |
