GAME DESIGN INITIATIVE AT CORNELL (GDIAC) |
|
The Game Design Initiative at Cornell University (GDIAC) is an
interdisciplinary collaboration of students and faculty dedicated
to the academic study of game design. GDIAC offers an undergraduate
program in game design, as well as an outreach program to junior
high and high school students in the Ithaca area. It also offers
informal support to graduate students and faculty interested in
pursuing game-related research.
First formed in 2001, the Game Design Initiative was one of the earliest
undergraduate programs in game design, and the first to be offered
at an Ivy League institution. GDIAC brings together Cornell's world class
talent in computer science, information science, communication, art,
and music. It is committed to a vision of game design as a rigorous
academic discipline that upholds the standards of a Cornell University
education.
Cornell alumni enjoy prominent positions at a wide variety of gaming
companies. We have alumni at major game companies such as Nintendo,
Electronic Arts, and Zynga. We also have alumni at prominent studios
such as Bungie, Valve, and Irrational Games. Finally, with the rise
of social and mobile gaming, many of alumni are striking out as
independent developers, or even creating their own start-ups. Come
join us and see what all the excitement is about.
