This visually striking, but dramatically weak film was Salma Hayek's dream project. You can judge for yourself whether she's succeeded in capturing the essence of the renowned artist now that the movie is out on DVD.

1/4  "It's not helpful to listen to extremist name-calling, regardless of whether you think Kissinger was a calculating fiend or just a slippery self-promoter."
-- Phil Villarreal, ARIZONA DAILY STAR

3/4  "For those who are intrigued by politics of the '70s, the film is every bit as fascinating as it is flawed."
-- Jeff Vice, DESERET NEWS, SALT LAKE CITY

"A fast-moving, fluidly told tale, Eugene Jarecki's documentary certainly will likely inflame Kissinger's ardent cronies. And yet, as one-sided as its story is, the movie also manages a measured disposition."
-- Elbert Ventura, POPMATTERS

3/4  "The bigger question it raises now is what to do with his ideological disciples in the Bush administration."
-- Joshua Tanzer, OFFOFFOFF

3/4  "Even if you don't think [Kissinger's] any more guilty of criminal activity than most contemporary statesmen, he'd sure make a courtroom trial great fun to watch."
-- Bob Strauss, LOS ANGELES DAILY NEWS

B  "It's both a necessary political work and a fascinating documentary..."
-- Dennis Schwartz, OZUS' WORLD MOVIE REVIEWS

"The Trials of Henry Kissinger is a remarkable piece of filmmaking … because you get it."
-- David Poland, HOT BUTTON

3.5/5  "devastating evidence!"
-- John A. Nesbit, CULTUREDOSE.NET

B  "...the implication is Kissinger may have decided that — when it comes to truncheoning — it’s better to give than to receive."
-- Philip Martin, ARKANSAS DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE

  "A compelling film."
-- Jean Lowerison, SAN DIEGO METROPOLITAN

4/5  "It's an engrossing and thought-provoking examination of the overriding will to power and the morality of its application."
-- Jim Lane, SACRAMENTO NEWS & REVIEW

2.5/4  "Though an important political documentary, this does not really make the case the Kissinger should be tried as a war criminal."
-- Harvey S. Karten, COMPUSERVE

2.5/5  "It's better suited for the history or biography channel, but there's no arguing the tone of the movie - it leaves a bad taste in your mouth and questions on your mind."
-- Cherryl Dawson and Leigh Ann Palone, THEMOVIECHICKS.COM

The Trials of Henry Kissinger

B  "A muckraking job, the cinematic equivalent of a legal indictment, and a fairly effective one at that."
-- Frank Swietek, ONE GUY'S OPINION

B+  "A fascinating, bombshell documentary that should shame Americans, regardless of whether or not ultimate blame finally lies with Kissinger. Should be required viewing for civics classes and would-be public servants alike."
-- Brent Simon, ENTERTAINMENT TODAY

"Gibney and Jarecki just want to string the bastard up."
-- John Powers, L.A. WEEKLY

3/4  "While little more than a muckraking diatribe, The Trials of Henry Kissinger has the disingenuous documentation to 'prove' that Kissinger was a Machiavellian war criminal."
-- David Perry, CINEMA-SCENE.COM

"Like the best 60 Minutes exposé, the film (at 80 minutes) is actually quite entertaining."
-- Eric Monder, FILM JOURNAL INTERNATIONAL

7/10  "Jarecki and Gibney do find enough material to bring Kissinger's record into question and explain how the diplomat's tweaked version of statecraft may have cost thousands and possibly millions of lives."
-- Dan Lybarger, LYBARGER LINKS

4/5  "You may feel compelled to watch the film twice or pick up a book on the subject."
-- Matt Langdon, FILMCRITIC.COM

"A passionately inquisitive film determined to uncover the truth and hopefully inspire action."
-- Kevin N. Laforest, MONTREAL FILM JOURNAL

3.5/5  "The case is a convincing one, and should give anyone with a conscience reason to pause."
-- Ken Fox, TV GUIDE'S MOVIE GUIDE

3.5/5  "A solid piece of journalistic work that draws a picture of a man for whom political expedience became a deadly foreign policy."
-- Kevin Courrier, BOXOFFICE MAGAZINE

-- Chris Vognar, DALLAS MORNING NEWS

3.5/4  "The film is insightful about Kissinger's background and history."
-- Steven Rosen, DENVER POST

  "Both damning and damned compelling."

-- Elvis Mitchell, NEW YORK TIMES

"It makes compelling, provocative and prescient viewing."
-- Desson Howe, WASHINGTON POST

"Not everyone will welcome or accept The Trials of Henry Kissinger as faithful portraiture, but few can argue that the debate it joins is a necessary and timely one."
-- Ann Hornaday, WASHINGTON POST

B-  "Watching this film, one is left with the inescapable conclusion that Hitchens' obsession with Kissinger is, at bottom, a sophisticated flower child's desire to purge the world of the tooth and claw of human power."
-- Owen Gleiberman, ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY

3/4  "Enjoyably fast-moving, hard-hitting documentary."
-- Jonathan Foreman, NEW YORK POST

3/4  "The film is a blunt indictment, part of a perhaps surreal campaign to bring Kissinger to trial for crimes against humanity."
