Commencement Details for Computer Science Graduates

For students graduating December 2018, May 2019, or August 2019, the Department of Computer Science will hold a ceremony and reception to honor our graduates—both Undergraduate and Graduate—during the May Commencement weekend, May 24-26, 2019. Graduates and their guests are invited to attend the CS ceremonies and receptions, with more information below. There are no tickets required for these events. Detailed information will be sent to graduates during the 2019 Spring semester.

Undergraduate Commencement

Date: Friday, May 24, 2019

Time: 6:30-8:30 pm (doors open at 5:30 pm)

Location: Barton Hall 

B.A. and B.S. Degrees will be recognized at this event 

SCHEDULE for graduation ceremony on Friday, May 24, 2019:

5:30 pm: Doors open for seating at Barton Hall (west side of building—facing Statler Hotel)

5:30-6 pm: Graduates should arrive (east side of building—on Garden Avenue, facing Comstock Hall and Teagle Hall), pick up name card, and line up for procession into stage area

6:20 pm: Guests should be seated and all Graduates should be in line and ready to process into the ceremony/stage area

6:30 pm: Procession/Ceremony begins

~7:45 pm: Ceremony ends/Graduate Recessional

~7:55 pm: Graduates gather at stage area for group photo

8 pm: Reception begins in Barton Hall (east side of building)

General Information:

Tickets: None required; this is a non-ticketed event.

There is no limit to the number of guests that Graduates can bring to the event, but there will be an online RSVP (for students-only) opening in April to get an accurate head-count for the event.

Graduate Recognition Ceremony

Date: Saturday, May 25, 2019

Time: 1:30-4:00 pm 

Location: Engineering Quad (in the open space between Carpenter, Thurston, and Duffield Halls)

Ph.D., Masters, and M. Eng. degrees will be recognized at this event.

Information for Undergraduate and Graduate ceremonies:
 

Photos: Each year, the department hires a professional photographer to capture memorable moments throughout the ceremony. Once received from the photographer, these photos are then shared with all of our students via Computer Science’s listservs and/or compiled and made available on services like Google Photos, to be downloaded and shared as desired.

Receptions: All guests are invited to the receptions immediately following both ceremonies. Dessert will be served following undergraduate commencement ceremony, and a light lunch will be served following the graduate ceremony.

Parking: Parking is available in the Hoy Road Garage, adjacent to the Baseball field and in close proximity to Gates Hall, Barton Hall, and the Engineering Quad. A campus map can be found by the garage.

Accessibility for Undergraduate ceremony: Please note that guests with reduced mobility and/or limited stamina should arrive on the Garden Avenue (the east side of Barton Hall, directly across from Teagle Hall) and enter via the Garden Avenue entrance. Guests may be dropped off at the east side of Barton before heading to the parking garage. A campus map can be found near the garage.

Accessibility for Graduate ceremony: The ceremony is held in a tent on the Engineering quad. There are accessible sidewalks from the street to the middle of the quad. We have reserved space in the tent for those with mobility and other accessibility needs.

Saturday, May 25, 2019, 12:30-1:30 pm, Senior Convocation  at Schoellkopf Stadium (between Campus and Hoy roads)

Sunday, May 26, 2019, 10 am-12 pm, University Commencement Ceremony at Schoellkopf Stadium (between Campus and Hoy roads)

Following Graduate Recognition Ceremony on Saturday, May 25 there will be a Ph.D. Hooding Ceremony in Barton Hall from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm. The ceremony will run from 5:00-6:15 pm with a reception to follow from 6:15-7:00 pm. Please RSVP.
