Technical Electives (detailed)

If you are still unclear about the Technical Electives, this additional information may be helpful. A list of examples follows.

The Technical Electives must be made up of two or more 3000+ level courses, totaling six or more credit hours.  These courses must be taken for a letter grade, and each must earn three or more credit hours.

Technical Electives are also likely to have one or more of the following characteristics:

- formal logic
- statistical analysis
- chemical analysis
- mathematical abstraction
- scientific experimentation

Course categories that typically DO NOT qualify as Technical Electives for the Computer Science major:

Meant here to include primarily:  Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Engineering, and Computing.

Note: some fields (such as Linguistics, Psychology, Economics or Philosophy, for example) offer various technical courses involving the application of mathematical, scientific and/or formal reasoning methods, and therefore may qualify as "Technical Electives" for the major in Computer Science. Refer back to characteristics of technical courses, above.

Defined here as general or expositional prose (not meant to include "technical writing" which is commonly found in technical papers or abstracts).

Employing widely accepted methods of scientific description.
