Biology In Selected Engineering Majors

| Bio Home | Overview | Fresh/Soph  | BioEng Option | Courses | Other Places |

Bioengineering is interdisciplinary by nature and research  spans several departments. Undergraduates can realize their career ambitions by majoring in the appropriate field and taking the right bioengineering/bioscience courses.   Follow the links in this table for sample academic programs.

Field

Some Themes

ABEN Plant biomechanics, physiological engineering, etc.
Applied and Engineering Physics Instrumentation, microsensor design, etc.
Chemical Engineering Processes to produce drugs, destroy toxins, etc.
Computer Science Genomic databases, sequence matching algorithms, etc.
Civil Engineering (Environmental Option) Use microbiology to solve pollution problems, etc.
Electrical Engineering Imaging science, instrumentation, etc.
Material Science and Engineering Use polymers as scaffolds for tissue engineering, etc.
Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Design of artificial joints,  pacemakers, etc.
OR&IE Health care management, optimization applications, etc.

Notes.

The schedules have not been checked for time conflicts.

To make them more readable to outsiders, we have used specific courses rather than generic placeholders like "approved elective", "distribution", etc.  Do not attach too much importance to the particular courses that are used in the example schedules.

The word "[Draft]" is used throughout because we are fully aware that it is the business of  the fields to produce sample schedules that meet graduation requirements.

The sample schedules remind us how important it will be for the fields to coordinate their bioengineering course offerings.
