Academic Technology

CIT's Academic Technologies & Media Services provides support for faculty and students across Cornell. There are two project suggestions. In both projects, the first stage will be to determine the scope of the work to be done. How much can be completed effectively within the time constraints of a single semester?

Blackboard

Create a new building block for the Blackboard course management system. The type of functionality that is desired falls into several areas: integration with library services/systems, user management, extending how content can be added, or collaboration tools.

This building block will be part of Blackboard's "open architecture initiative" to add new functionality to their system. For information about building blocks, see: http://www.blackboard.com/extend/b2/

Gold Quizzes

The "Gold Quizzes" are a web-based review/tutorial tool for instruction that was developed several years ago. (See http://www.cit.cornell.edu/atc/itsupport/goldquiz.shtml.)

The project is to create a new version of the tool. There are two potential ways that this could be done.

  • The first approach would be to create a completely new version of the tool and incorporate new features that have already been identified.
  • The second approach would be to transform the review/tutorial tool into a game. This would require the creation of a game engine that would be flexible to be able to handle different types of content.
