CS 421: Numerical Analysis (Fall 2004)

• (Posted 12/7/04.) The final exam is Thursday, Dec. 16, 12 noon, Olin 165. The exam is closed-book and closed-note, except you are allowed to bring an 8.5-by-11 sheet of paper written on both sides with notes.

• (Posted 12/9/04.) Students who received points off on Q4 of PS5 may be entitled to a regrade. There was a mistake in the question, in that the suggested termination test may be activated after just one iteration for a certain class of test matrices. The grader took points off for papers stating that the termination test activated after just one iteration.
• (Posted 12/15/04.) Problem Set 6 has been graded and scores are available on CMS. You may pick up your graded paper in Upson 363C.
• (Posted 12/15/04.) All regrade requests on all material must be handed before or at the final exam, Thursday, 12/16/04, noon, except for PS6. PS6 regrade requests may be handed in until noon, Friday, 12/17/04. Please be sure to check your grades on CMS. Most regrade requests have now been processed except for Q4 on PS5 mentioned in an earlier announcement.

Note that the "total" score on CMS is not necessarily the same total that was used as the basis for computing your grade, since that total does not have the lowest homework dropped. Course goal To learn principles of numerical analysis, that is, algorithms for problems arising in science and engineering involving real number computation.
